Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable ServiceSM
2018 - 2022 Signature Programs
Under President Dr. Glenda Baskin Glover's dynamic leadership, the 2018 - 2022 International Program will focus on the theme, which the sorority's 300,000 members and 986 local chapters will address community needs via programs in traditional and new target areas. The 2018 - 2022 International Program consists of five target areas, one signature program, and specifically targeted community service days.
Target I: HBCU 4 Life: A Call to Action: #CAP℠ is a step-by-step apporach to facilitate college adminssion from researching various insitutions and submitting applications through completion of the enrollment process. Assisting students in completing college applications, preparing for the ACT and SAT, writing compelling personal statements, identifying scholarships and other finacial aid, and compiling a portfoilio to track college admission results. Through #CAP℠, Alpha Kappa Alpha will improve the trajectory of the lives of talented young people by increasing their potentional for success and laying the foundation for positive, productive, and fulfilling lives.
In keeping with an intense focus on promoting lifelong learning, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated will provide substantial foucs on education with an emphasis on hisortically blacck colleges and univeristies and support through AKA HBCU Endowment Initiative in partnership with EAF in which an endowed scholarship will be established at each accredited four-year HBCU.
Target II: Women's Healthcare and Wellness: The sorority will continue to raise community awarness of critical health issues impacting African-American women. The primary focuses will be breast cancer awareness and prevention, heart health, nurtition and wellness, and care for caregivers. Alpha Kappa Alpha will own a digital AKA Mobile Breast Cancer Screening Unit that will travel oo various locations and provide mammogram screening. The sorority will enhance its commitment to healthy hearts through fitness activities an walking. We will emphasize healthy lifestyles including prenatal, childhood, adult, and senior nutrition programs. Partnering with local nutritionists and dieticians to design healthy eating plans and safe diets for longer, healthier living.
Target III: Building Your Economic Legacy: The sorority will focus on emphasizing financial planning, assest accumulation, and wealth building including savings and investments, managing debt, and improving credit. By providing service through these programs: Personal Financial Planing and Assest Accumulation, Credit Repair and Monitoring, Entrepreneurship and the Black Dollar 365, and Operation AKA Assist.
Target IV: The Arts: Sorority members will expose students to arts enrichment and culture by focusing on visual and performing arts and by showcasing talent through the exploration of writers, entertainers and various other artists. Salute to the Harlem Renaissance will celebrate the contributions of African-American artists during the Harlem Renaissance through student research and chapter sponsorhip of student talent showcases. Salute to the Black Arts Movement will focus on student research and celebration of African-American artist during the Black Arts Movement. Members will champion acttivities that express the movement message and highlight members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority who served as leaders and particpants.
Target V: Global Impact: Sorority members will engage in programming deigned to enhance the international footprint of the soroity. By providing services through these programs: National Global Impact Day, Global Assistance Activities, Soles 4 Souls, Lions Club International, Pillowcase Project and Refugees in America Assistance Program (RAAP).
Community Impact Days: Members will implement initiatives annually, on the same day, worldwide, to demonstrate Alpha Kappa Alpha's collective impact in program target areas:
